Denver, CO
Ogden Theatre
By: Jason Bullinger
Backed by a
great stage display and full band, Adam Young, AKA Owl City, brought his
synth-pop electronic sound to the Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO on October
3rd. The show is in support of his latest album,
The Midsummer Station
that was just released in August.
Owl City opened
with "Dreams and Disasters" and actually played most, if not the entire
new album during the show. It was surprising, as most acts these days
only touch three to four songs promoting a new album and play material
the audience is more familiar with. The set list was enjoyable this time
around and it was great to hear the new songs performed live.
The performance
was fantastic but the visuals that Young and his band brought on stage
were visually stunning. I thought the concept of the stage design, based
on the rustic underwater illustration from The Midsummer's Station cover
tied in nicely with the music and the atmosphere.
Give Young
credit, he puts on a fantastic show. My favorite moment of the night was
whenever he was on the guitar. He plays and performs really well and
it’s somewhat surprising considering most of his studio albums are
electronic. Because of Young’s demographic there was no shortage of sing
along moments for all of the girls as the song, “Angels” was a big
moment and of course “Fireflies" was too. Owl City closed out the show
by playing Young’s latest hit single, "Good Time." The recording
features Carly Rae Jepsen singing along with Adam, but on this tour the
accompanying vocals were handled live vocals by keyboardist Breanne
Düren.
Overall it was
a good show at The Ogden, Owl City was fantastic and Matthew Koma was
great opening up the show as well. There are only a few more chances to
see Owl City live during this tour, it’ll wrap up October 7th
in Detroit. After that show Young and his backing band will be
performing overseas in Europe, Asia, and Australia before the year is
up.
