Current AA chart-toppers Twin Atlantic recently concluded a lengthy US tour opening for Middle Class Rut and Red Bull Records labelmates AWOLNATION. Only the Scottish four-piece’s second US tour, they found themselves quite at home amongst US crowds. “When we come out onstage and start playing, and then Sam [McTrusty] starts singing in his broad Scottish accent, you get a few really odd looks, but by the end of the set we’ve always won people over,” said lead guitarist Barry McKenna, in a recent chat with Alternative Addiction.
Crossing the Atlantic has always been a dream for the band, and they’re just thrilled to have the opportunity. “The last band we supported back home was Jimmy Eat World, and before that it was Blink-182,” chimed in lead vocalist Sam McTrusty. “But for a Scottish band, it’s kind of like everyone’s dream back in the UK to get to tour America… It’s a massive achievement.”
The band recently released their Red Bull Records debut album ‘Free’ over the summer, to nearly universal critical acclaim. “It’s weird that it’s been received so well,” says Sam. “All we tried to do was make a record that we cared about… We weren’t really thinking about writing big hits.”
Although the band is currently back home in the U.K., to follow up their sold out U.S. tour with AWOLNATION, they’ve announced the launch of a groundbreaking new promotion in partnership with popular photo social networking site Instagram.
The Twin Atlantic 'Instagram Project' was launched December 2nd and is the first of its kind. The project will pull in fans' Instagram uploads tagged with the hashtag #freetwinatlantic and pull them all into their own grid allowing fans to interact with their own photo socially and share it with friends via Email, Facebook walls and Twitter.
Once enough fans have done it, exclusive content will be unlocked, like a FREE download of the Hadouken! remix of the song 'Make A Beast Of Myself', very special acoustic videos and a few surprises too.
As the fans' pictures continue to grow, the photos will be pulled into a mosaic image of the 'Make A Beast Of Myself' single cover of the Virgin Mary and made into a lithograph composed of all the fans' images. This very special litho will be available for presale during the promotion.
Twin Atlantic is expected to return to the U.S. for another tour in early 2012. Details will be announced shortly. The band is currently on tour throughout the UK.
