Rob Thomas Plans Intimate Summer Tour

Matchbox 20 frontman Rob Thomas will hit the road this summer for a series of "more intimate" shows in smaller venues across the country, as the singer continues to back his latest solo album.

Involving mostly casino appearances, the trek kicks off July 15 in Rama, Ontario, and continues through an Aug. 28 set in Biloxi, MS. Dates for the shows, which will feature Thomas and a small backing outfit performing a "career-spanning" set, according to a press release, are detailed at right.

"It's a chance for me, as a songwriter, to really highlight lyric and melody and to create different versions of songs that I've been playing for years," said Thomas in a statement about the tour, which will benefit the Sidewalk Angels Foundation, a non-profit group started by Thomas and his wife, Marisol, to help address social issues for both humans and animals. "We'll be doing my solo stuff, Matchbox Twenty songs, and covers. It will be a real 'Storytellers' kind of vibe."

Thomas' sophomore solo album, "Cradlesong," surfaced last June. The effort peaked at No. 3 on The Billboard 200, just two spots below his 2005 solo debut, "...Something to Be," which made chart history when Thomas became the first male artist from a rock or pop group to debut at No. 1 with his inaugural solo album.

For the newer effort, Thomas once again enlisted producer Matt Serletic, who helmed his solo debut as well as Matchbox Twenty's four studio albums.

More recently, Thomas released "Someday," a four-song digital-only EP that features four previously unreleased tracks, including "Sunday Morning New York Blue" and a live version the EP's title track.
