Mayday Parade are readying their follow up to 2009’s Anywhere But Here and according to lead singer Derek Sanders, it’s “some of the best music that band has ever made.”
“We’ve always said that we wanted to make music that we loved and wanted to listen to, but that was really our only goal this time around,” Sanders went on to say of the new album during a recent interview with Alternative Addiction. “We just wanted to go in and make the album exactly the way we wanted to make it. Just be really creative and not do it the structured way that we did it before.”
The band recorded the album in Alpharetta, Georgia earlier this year over the winter and early spring, with a short break in late February to play the Soundwave festival in Australia. Of the album’s overall sound, Sanders says the band pushed themselves outside of their typical boundaries.
“I’m not saying its crazy different,” said Sanders. “But I think we definitely expanded creatively, we did a lot of slide strings and we had a choir come in [for one of the tracks], so hopefully people like it, I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
The as-of-yet-untitled new album is expected to be released later this year.
