The Foo Fighters were among the musicians who paid tribute to Tom Petty at the recent MusiCares event. The tribute took place at the charity's annual Person of the Year concert, which was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday.
The Foo Fighters performed their rendition of "Honey Bee" and were later joined by Gary Clarke Jr. on "Breakdown." Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Jackson Browne and George Strait also performed at the event. Ed Helms served as the emcee for the evening.
Petty later accepted an award and said:
"It empowered the youth of America and the government got really nervous," he said, referring to rock and roll's rise in the 1950s. "Especially Republicans. They put Elvis in the Army and Chuck Berry in jail and things calmed down for a few years but it was too late. The music reached England.and I joined the conspiracy to put black popular music on the white radio."
