Death Cab For Cutie Plan New Album In 2010

Death Cab For Cutie

According to an interview the band did with MTV last week, Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Jason McGerr said a new album is a top priority for the band in 2010.

According to an interview the band did with MTV last week, Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Jason McGerr said a new album is a top priority for the band in 2010.

"We've definitely cleared space [in our schedule]. It's the project this year for us," McGerr said. "But we don't know where we're going yet."

At the rehearsals for the 2010 Critics' Choice Awards, Walla told MTV that the band is "just starting to crack it open, like kind of getting into the demos for the first time, bouncing some ideas back and forth."

The planned album will be the band's seventh studio release, following 2008's Narrow Stairs.

Walla noted that Death Cab "haven't dived in and hit the 'record' button yet."

"We're trying to figure out when to dive in and hit the 'record' button," he said. "That's sort of where we're at."

In the past year, the band released the first single from the New Moon soundtrack and shot its video in Toronto. The band also released an EP, The Open Door, which contained tracks that had not been included on Narrow Stairs.
