The band released their most recent album and sixth studio LP, Neighborhoods, in 2009. Blink's latest release was the Dogs Eating Dogs EP in December 2012. The band split from their label Interscope in 2011.

"We're hoping to head into the studio and have the album out in late spring/early summer," Hoppus previously told Kerrang!.

"The way we always work is Mark and I pick up our acoustic guitars in our living rooms with our families," guitarist Tom Delonge added to Rolling Stone. "And once we start getting little things together, you'll see text messages and emails, then managers get involved and then everyone needs to talk and then we're on tour talking, so we're three or four steps in."
