Not-so-favorite Canadian rock band Nickelback would love to do a metal album, according to the band's bassist Mike Kroeger.
Kroeger was asked by Wall of Sound about the band's latest album Feed the Machine and if they would consider going any heavier in the future.
Kroeger replied, "I would love to. Metal is what makes me go, it's what I listen to without fail. If we could actually sink in and do a metal album, all four of us would love it."
He described all the members of Nickelback as metalheads at their core, on differing scales.
"We all know everything about the Big Four - Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer," Kroeger said. "I would do a Slayer cover album if I could. That's where my heart lies."
"I listen to bands like Meshuggah, Gojira, Lamb of God. and we became friends with those guys. Daniel [Adair, drums] and I nerd out on stuff they do, and as musicians we love to listen to it," he added.
Last year, Kroeger had said that Nickelback would stay put with the band's trademark pop-rock.
"They've developed a taste for what we do, so we don't want to go too far and shake them off," Kroeger said. "On the previous album, No Fixed Address, we explored more diverse territory stylistically."
He added, "Some of that was received well and some of it was not - and that's by our people - so you come to expect it when you push the envelope that far."
