AA Interview Quick Hits: The Royal Concept

Image

Alternative Addiction sat down and had a quick chat with The Royal Concept about their new album "The Man Without Qualities"

AA: The Last time you guys released new music it was 2015, what have you guys been doing since then?

TRC: We’ve been busy writing new music, discovering and touring new places like China and southeast Asia, starting families and some of us have been busy making babies.

AA: The new album is called "The Man Without Qualities" - where did you get the title and why did you decide it was a good title?

TRC: The Man Without Qualities is a fictional character, full of flaws, jokes, charm and with a sweet spot for late nights and always on the lookout for some fun. I guess we all have a man without qualities inside of us, and for some reason the title stuck with us and we liked how the title plays along with the songs on the album.

AA: The sound for this record is dramatically different that what you guys had done in the past. Why did you shift towards the new sound?

TRC: We got older, realized we got all these actual instruments laying around in the studio and decided to give them a go.

AA: Is it harder to come up with more songs for an album or is it easier to not have to trim a few songs you like?

TRC: Making more songs rather than fewer is a luxury we haven’t had the opportunity to explore that much before, so we’re thrilled to be able to release a full length album again. Coming up with songs hasn’t been the hard part, it’s deciding which songs get to be on the album.

AA: Do you guys feel like you're starting over in a way with the new album and the new sound?

TRC: In a way yes, but that’s not to say the next one will sound like this one. We like exploring new paths. But these songs have been a blast to play live, Frans Povel even had to start practicing again.

AA: How has your approach to writing songs changed since the last time you guys put out music?

TRC: This time around we tried to create an album more as a collective, every band member had a vital part in creating this album and we played a lot together, at the same time, so that has been a new approach for us.

AA: When people listen to the new album, what's the number one thing you want them to take away from it?

TRC: What the hell were they thinking and how on earth did they do that?
